1990

The 1990s were truly an extraordinary time for movie posters. With the newfound computer graphics and imprinted shift into photography, the era provided some of the most iconic cinematic images still to this day. 

Pulp Fiction

This iconic Quentin Tarantino 1994 film poster is of Japanese origin.

It depicts John Travolta and Uma Thurman's characters dancing in the centre in front of a large image of Bruce Willis's character. 

This poster is a beautiful collaboration that shows the serious action themes within the film, contracting with the light-hearted silliness. 

Trainspotting

The poster for this 1996 classic, directed by Danny Boyle, features all five main characters lined up in dramatic black and white photography. Artistically contrasting the black and white is the title "Trainspotting", situated within a bright red stripe. 

TOY STORY

This bright and colourful poster of the 1995 Disney Pixar's Toy Story shows an array of prominent characters, all with different facial expressions.

1980

The 1980s introduced us to an abundance of iconic films, so it is no surprise that posters from this era are always in high demand. Designers in the 80s began experimenting with special effects, providing us with more modern designs.

Back to the Future

This poster for the 1985 favourite Back to the Future shows Michael J Fox's character, protagonist Marty McFly, standing next to the iconic time-travelling Delorean with a moody and artistic background of blue and yellow tones. 

The Empire Strikes Back

This poster for the 1980's science fiction phenomenon Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back has a completely black background with a dramatic cut-out silhouette of the infamous Darth Vader. 

Gremlins

This mysterious 1984 movie poster for the Spielberg classic Gremlins shows a box containing a peeping gremlin. The blue tones and shadows create a sense of mystery and excitement. 

1970

The 70s was a fascinating decade that provided us with a number of audacious, eccentric, and engaging movie posters that effectively seduced and enticed film enthusiasts.

Westworld

1960

Throughout the 1960s, action films became extremely prominent, and with the release of James Bond in 1964, they only grew in popularity throughout the decade. Many poster designers adapted their poster designs to support the films' change.

The Jungle Book

1950

The 1950s provided a fundamental cultural shift, presenting vibrant retro-style poster art and using both photography and cartoon designs. Posters included more things of cultural relevance like pin-ups, cars, televisions and phones.
